Some helpful information:

1. There will be 3 classes (Merit Badges) each day.

2. Come prepared, pencils (a must) notebooks advisable.

3. Pack snacks, and drinks – there won’t be a scheduled “lunch time” but they can nibble in between classes.

4. Should you bring $ ? the OA usually is set up in the gym.  (sometimes available: hot dogs, doughnuts, drinks, snacks)

5. If you are dropping off, plan on a meeting place for pick up – there will be approximately 1000 scouts all leaving at the same time, drive by pick ups are nearly impossible.

6. Class A’s are required.

7. Remember you are representing Troop 7, act accordingly.

8. If you miss a class – coordinate with the counselor how to make up the work if possible.

9.  Most important:  ENJOY THIS OPPORTUNITY.

!!! URGENT !!! MBU 2011 Information

URGENT!

In order to sign up for MBU Scouts MUST e-mail a completed form to Mrs. ALICE LEBLANC by 4 PM TODAY January 21.

Click here to download the SCOUT MERIT BADGE SELECTION FORM.  Fill it out using Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download from adobe.com if you don't already have it) and E-MAIL the completed form to Alice at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 4 PM TODAY!  Please DO NOT use the "Submit Form" button in the PDF form as this will e-mail it to Council which is not what we want.  You can use "Save As" to save the file and then attach the form to an e-mail to Alice.  Please ignore any messages saying you should "Submit" the form.  If all else fails, you can can print the form and drop it off at the LeBlancs at 33 Cornet Stetson by 4 PM.  Feel free to call 545-2560 with any questions.

On the form fill out your contact information.  Then check off all the merit badges you already have so you don't get assigned to one of those.  Next pick up to 12 MB selection and use the Rate pull-down box to prioritize your preference, 1 being the most important to you.  We will be submitting the forms tonight and the assignment process will occur tomorrow.  You may not get your first choice but but it is fun anyway.

For new scouts and any scout not yet First Class rank, we recommend selecting the "Flight-to-Eagle" option.  This option takes the place of all three MB selections and runs all day.  This Flight To Eagle (FTE)  program covers many of the requirements needed for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks.  This MBU FTE is NOT THE SAME as the FTE at Summer Camp.  The MBU FTE covers mostly "inside" requirements such as citizenship while the Summer Camp FTE covers mostly "outside" requirements such as the 5-mile hike.  In other words if a scout attends both FTE programs he will be well on his way to earning ranks up to First Class.  Also note, while they can be fun to earn, no Merit Badges are required until you go for Star rank.

If any ADULT would like to volunteer to teach or even be a hall monitor let Alice know and we will include you on the troop-wide form.  I think scouts who have a parent working at MBU get priority regarding MB selections.

For those not familiar with MBU:

Merit Badge University (MBU) is happening again in 2011.  This is a Council-wide event in which hundreds of parent volunteers teach Merit Badge classes to Old Colony scouts. This is a great opportunity to earn Merit Badges.  It is held over three Saturdays on March 5, 12, 26 at the Southeastern Voc-Tech in Eason, MA.  It normally costs $20 per scout but this year Troop 7 is picking up the tab so it is FREE for Troop 7 scouts.  A scout who signs up either gets assigned to 3 merit badges OR the scout selects Flight-To-Eagle in which case he takes no merit badges.  It is fun and productive and we encourage carpooling.
